With nearly 150 hours of intensive class time, this comprehensive Emergency Medical Technician course meets the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) requirement of instruction and practice necessary for the student to sit for the two-part NREMT examination. Successful completion of this course and, by extension, passing the NREMT cognitive and psychomotor examination, ensures EMT certification through the National Registry of EMTs and qualifies the candidate for Massachusetts certification.

Areas of instruction covered through lectures and hands-on practice include: legal issues; general pharmacology; respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies; OB/GYN emergencies; musculoskeletal, head, and spine trauma; soft tissue injuries; hazardous materials; ambulance operations; emergency medical techniques for children; and scene safety.

Evaluation is based on class participation and performance on class exams, quizzes, and practical exercises.

Prerequisites:

  • Be able to read, understand & communicate in English
  • Be free from addiction to alcohol or any drug
  • Be able to lift and carry 125 pounds
  • Be free from any physical or mental defect or disease which might impair his/her ability to provide emergency care within the scope of the EMT’s training and responsibilities, or which might jeopardize the health of another member of the class.

Additional books may be suggested to support the current material. Participants will also be responsible for any additional fees required by the National Registry and Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A non-refundable application fee of $200.00 is due with the application, with the remaining tuition due by day one of the program.
